Discovering Taghazout

Most people come to Taghazout for the surf, which they should it is a bonafide surf village after all. Just don’t forget to check out the wonders and adventures this small corner of Morocco has to offer. A must are the Tuesday night beach party, Taghazout’s own personal paradise, and the traditional bath spa. This week I had three unique experiences I will never forget.  On Tuesday nights Paradise Place is where the party is at. It is a pretty standard beach party/bar with drinks, music, and fire pit. You are almost...

Come Get Morockin in Morocco

“Hey you want to come to Morocco and teach yoga?” Pops ups on my Facebook message screen from my good friend I met on my travels to Spain one day. I had just moved to LA a few months ago and was looking for a yoga teaching opportunity. I did not think she was serious, nor was I so sure about uprooting my life to Morocco for a couple of months, but after a week or so of the thought of Morocco dancing around in my head I knew what my decision was. I said “screw it, I’m going to Morocco”.   Of course there was the standard “Are you...

Welcome to Paradise!

Welcome to Paradise!

After a few good days of surf, the swell started to ease up and thankfully the hostel had organised a group trip to Paradise Valley! (This was so awesome because I thought my arms were going to fall off!) Again we had another delightful breakfast before heading into the Moroccan Valleys. The sun was shining, the tunes were pumping and we had a leisurely ride into the palm tree filled wonderland. It was such a beautiful utopia of calm and serenity. We ventured into the blue lagoon that was waiting below us…then pitched up for a day of...

My Moroccan Adventure!

My Moroccan Adventure!

Getting there! After spending an idyllic summer in Portugal and becoming accustomed to the surfing lifestyle, I knew that I had caught the bug and the only way to feed my addiction was to head to the North of Africa, Morocco – to the surfing mecca that is Taghazout! After hearing from all the pros and enthusiasts that this is the place to ride the waves in the winter how could I not be tempted by the magic that this country alludes? Naturally since visiting my home in Yorkshire, England for a few weeks my skin was desperately seeking Vitamin...

Surfing in the Digital Age

Surfing has never been easier in terms of having accessible aids to guide you in the rigors of your activity. And with the continual conveyor belt of new digital aids like innovative apps and informative online resources, the avid surfer – amateur or professional – has a plethora of sources to draw upon when the need for up-to-date reports on areas to surf or the weather conditions in a certain area are of paramount importance. The demand for the development of apps has helped improve the actual experience of enjoying sports to the...

Getting out and about in Taghazout

In my short time in Taghazout, I have really learned to appreciate what this town has to offer. I spent the first week here sicker than I have been in years, so I really tried to rest when I wasn’t surfing with the groups here at camp. My second week, feeling better, I have tried really going out and surfing on my own at my own pace. Also really taking the time to see what this small village has to offer. Living in the hostel Living in the hostel in the camp environment is so nice. The people who are here are from all over the world and have...

Surfing – My First Day

Surfing – My First Day

Surfing has always been a sport that I wanted to try, but never have. My reasons for not trying to surf are not very acceptable for someone who says they want to try something. It has been around me for more than half my life as I live in California presently, and grew up in Alaska (there is surfing there). Plus, I have many friends who surf regularly and offer to take me out. With that said, I know what you are thinking: straight FAILING. I should have been surfing for years at this point, right? I am finally earning some major redemption...

Morocco… Finally

October has been a busy travel month for me. My summer job ended at the beginning of the month, and my travels started just 2 days after my last day of work. Fortunately being someone who is blessed with seasonal employment, my travels will continue on until my next job starts in December. For this break in between employment, I decided to pack in as many places as I could. Starting with a lovely trip to Alaska to visit my family before heading back down to my home in Lake Tahoe California, where I would start the international part of my 2 ½...

Surf Camp Taghazout’s Guide to Successful Shopping at the Souk El Had in Agadir

Whenever there is no surf in Taghazout, a trip to the famous Souk El Had in Agadir is a good idea (except for Monday when it is closed). It’s a perfect experience because you will not only get the chance to shop until you drop but also learn to do it the Moroccan way. You better learn quickly though if you don’t want to be THAT tourist who got completely ripped off. Luckily you have this little guide here to take you through the basics. Let’s start with transport. Normally Surf Camp Taghazout offers a trip to the souk every...

New Years Eve Party at Surf Camp Taghazout – Best Start into 2013!!!

Happy New Years everyone! I hope everyone had a just as amazing night as we did at Surf Camp Taghazout! I promised to tell you about it, so here we go. First, thanks to our awesome kitchen ladies Naima and Fatima, we had an extraordinarily delicious dinner to kick off the night. Finger food and tasty salads were being served as the barbeque was fired up to spoil us with some sausages and chicken. Everyone started to enjoy some drinks and Dave, our guest from New Zealand, seemed to be extra thirsty that night. He turned out to be a great...
